A European Science Foundation Network

Following a very successful ESF Exploratory workshop held in Sandbjerg, Denmark, April 7-11, 2002 (http://www.esf.org/generic/1362/EW0113P.pdf) an application was submitted for an ESF Network to investigate collisional phenomena with cold atoms. Such a research programme is necessarily interdisciplinary combining researchers from the atomic, molecular and optical physics community with those in the quantum chemistry, ultra-cold plasma and condensed matter communities. The Network brings together leading members of the European research community to discuss an integrated approach to the development of a research programme to study (and model) collisional processes with cold atoms. The Network will outline the research required, discuss its implementation, further the transfer of skills and knowledge (through a scheme of staff exchanges), foster the collaboration of European research community and forge links with the US community through the organisation of a series of workshops and conferences.
