ISA meeting

Week 45, November 9, 1999.

Status of the ring:Last week, we were unable to get enough Xe++ current from the EBIS for the run. There seems to be some focusing problems in the EBIS, which we will try to solve. The current is very good at the exit from the EBIS, but the beam is very large, such that less than one percent can be injected into the ring.
This week, we are running negative ions (O3, NO2 and NO3) for LHA & Co. We are using the cold-cathode source, and the group is p.t. trying to get the source to run in a stable mode.

Gratings for the SGM3 and UV1 will perhaps arrive before Christmas. The two SGM3 gratings maybe within a few weeks. The last refocusing mirror for the SGM3 has arrived.

The Microtron will be ready again in a few days. The leaks were more serious than we thought initially, and all the O-rings where the beam tubes enter the central chamber had to be replaced. Now, the vacuum is OK again, and will hopefully remain so for a long time!

The computer group reports, that a new version of the control system is ready, in which some bugs have been fixed.. The new version is now running at the separator, but will be installed on all control computers when it has been tested.
Since it could be an advantage for some of our ion users to be able to control their experiment from home, our portable computer will be set up as a control console.
