ISA meeting

Week 42, October 19, 1999.

Status of the ring: Electron Run 2/99 ended yesterday morning. The last week we injected low currents (100-120 mA) for the new SGM-3 monochromator. The changeover to ion operation is going well, and everything should be ready later this week.

The SGM 3 is working very well. The low-energy grating (which is the only one we have received) is characterised in its full energy range, and shows a resolution of a few meV. A few mechanical improvements are planned for the next run, but as a whole, the commissioning has been very successful, and the extra time we got from Ion Run 2/99 was well spent! It is still uncertain when the other gratings will arrive.

The SX-700 stopped running the Haldor Topsøe samples. There was a problem with charge build-up on the samples. Some modifications to the system to avoid this will be made before the next electron run, and the measurements can be continued.

The EBIS: Some irregularities were observed in the EBIS timing system last week. They were fixed, and the timing is now ready for injection/extraction. Work on that continues this week. There has been good progress until now.

Ion Run 2/99 will start in week 43 with setup of the EBIS beam. The schedule is available on the www.
