ISA meeting

Week 41, October 12, 1999.

Status of the ring: The ring has been running well, as usual. For the past two days, we have been injecting only 100 mA for the new SGM-3.

The SGM 3 gratings are mounted, and things look very good. Some mechanical problems have been found, which must be fixed during the ion run, but in spite of this a resolution of a few meV is observed, and this is within a factor of two of the specifications. Congratulations!

The SX-700 is still running Haldor Topsøe samples. The second set of samples is now being mounted. People from Topsøe have seen the first results, and they like what they see!

The EBIS: Last week, a Li beam was injected into the EBIS, but no Li was yet observed in the extracted beam. Many parameters must be correctly adjusted for this to happen, so we are still optimistic with respect to getting a beam for the coming ion run.

Electron Run 2/99 will end on Monday morning, Oct. 18. The extension is made in order to learn more about the SGM-3 monochromator, and to finish the current run on the SX-700.

Ion Run 2/99 will start in week 43.

Our home page on the www was discussed. It was mentioned that the initial page, both on the web site and in individual project pages, should be kept small in order to load quickly. A user on a slow connection should be able to avoid large bitmaps, animations etc.
