ISA meeting

Week 5, Jan. 27, 1998.

Status of the ring: The ion run ended Monday morning with a successful HD+ run for Lars Andersen et al.

The preparations for the next electron run starting in two weeks are progressing as planned. The cavity and the undulator chamber are being pumped and the bake-out will start today. In this connection it should be mentioned, that the new plunger looks very promising. In particular no heating is observed around the plunger as for the old type. Hence we will start the run with this new plunger, and if the test with beam is as successful, we will have two more plungers made; one for operation and one as a spare.

After the startup of the microtron last week, immediately leading to a stable beam, the wave-guide was polluted with water. Hence it is being cleaned again, and it should be ready by the end of this week. In this connection, a SF6 "sniffer" will be acquired together with Dorrit Zenner Lassen, to be used for leak detection of the SF6-filled waveguide.

The ASTRID status web page is being prepared for the startup of the run.

It is planned to have the undulator remote controlled for this run.

One of the consoles in the control room running the old display system will be changed to the new control system. Hence there should only be dynamical controls (DAF's) left on the old control system.

A small platform will be built for the HV electronics for onduline. Also a small platform will be built for the DF/SL experimental chamber.

A vacuum control/interlock panel will be specified and ordered by FF and SL for the undulator beamline.

Our visit to Risø yesterday was very fruitful, and the items we will "inherit" from the Risø tandem accelerator are mainly: 1) two double-focusing 90 degree bending magnets with one power supply, 2) two quadrupole doublets with power supplies, and 3) two 50 kW rf-transmitters.
