ISA meeting

Week 4, Jan. 20, 1998.

Status of the ring: The H- run last week went very well. The ion source was extremely stable.
This week we started the last run before the shutdown, which is HD+ for LHA et al. The beam is accelerated to 3 MeV in the ring, and has been positioned for use with the electron cooler. A new detector has been mounted in corner 4 for this experiment. It was baked last night, and is now ready for use.

Electron run 1/98 starts in week 7 (Feb. 9), and everything will be ready for mounting in the two week shutdown period.
The new plunger is now being leak tested. It will be mounted tomorrow, such that initial testing an take place at the end of this week.
The motors for the SGM I need some minor parts before they can be mounted. They should be ready within the next few days.
The turbo pumps for the X-Ray microscope are ready and mounted.
The new corner 2 chamber is finished, and ready for leak testing.

The Microtron is again running well. The work involved in cleaning the whole RF-system has paid off, and we now have a much more stable beam. There are still some stability problems at high power, but a new circulator, which has been ordered, should take care of that.

The new evaluation scheme (Arbejdspladsvurdering) which was put in everybodys mailbox yesterday MUST be filled in and given to JV or SPM. If you have some complaints or comments concerning working conditions at the institute, please put them on the form.

Stuart Lunt has been appointed as Synchrotron Radiation Coordinator. SL will create and update a schedule for the SR beamlines. Together with Søren Hoffmann and Z. Li he will assure that the different beamlines are ready at the start of an electron run and coordinate and assist the ongoing experiments. Further on, this group will take part in the development and commissioning of new beamlines.
