ISA meeting

Week 2, Jan. 6, 1998.

Status of the ring: This week we have started running D- using the duoplasmatron ion source. This source is presently giving us some problems, but we hope to get everything running later today.
The present run will end in week 4, and the changeover should be completed in week 5, such that we can use the second week of the shutdown period to get a good beam for the SR users in week 7.

The Microtron has had severe problems with discharges in the RF system. This has now been completely disassembled, and will cleaned and put back together using new copper gaskets and a new circulator. Hopefully, microtron operation will show improved stability after this operation.

The new control system is now also active on the microtron. We have been using it on the separator for some time now, and it seems to work well.

The plunger for the electron cavity has been recoated with silver. The coating looks good, but is rougher than the old one. It will now be polished and cleaned, and will be mounted in about two weeks, such that TK and YS will have some time for testing before the electron run starts.

The new laser alignment chamber for the undulator beamline was presented by LT, who wants to freeze the design now. There were no objections to the design. The drawings will now go to the mechanical workshop, and the chamber will be ready for mounting before the coming electron starts. The various manipulators etc. will be mounted later.

ISA Meeting Reports have for some time been available on the www. Several users have requested an email message when a new report is put on the net. This message will not contain the report, just a link to where it can be found on the net. If you would like to get on this email-list, please let NH () know.

We wish all of you a happy and successful new year!
