ISA meeting

Week 13, March 25, 1997.

Status of the ring: The ring has been running well during the past week. We routinely have currents around 170 mA with good lifetime.
Monday evening the microtron 'died', and we did not manage to bring it back to life until Tuesday at 11:30. The cause of the breakdown is unknown.

Beam during the Easter vacation: It is planned to provide beam for the users every day during Easter. In the period from 27 to 30/3, there will be at least one injection per day, at 10:30, with a possible second injection at 16:30.
We do not plan to provide beam on Monday 31/3, unless requested by the users.
Changes to this plan will be posted on the screens in the ring hall.

The undulator: Last Monday morning was spent on the undulator, and we are happy to report, that it seems to work as expected: We saw a lot of light. The light was observed at a position about 8½ m away from the undulator, and it was about 1.5 cm off horizontally. It could be centered with the correction dipoles, so now we must find a setting of the correction dipoles which centers the beam in the undulator beamline AND maintains beam positions for the other users. An alternative is to turn the undulator beamline 1.8 mrad. We will use next Tuesday (April 1st) morning to investigate this further, so there will be no beam for the users until Tuesday at noon.
Unfortunately, there was a leak in a window on the undulator beamline, which raised the vacuum to about 10-8 torr. The window is being replaced, and bakeout will start before Easter.

The new control system is performing well - when it is performing. We have seen strange errors, which point to a hardware fault in the computer we use. It will be replaced as soon as possible.
