ISA meeting

Week 11, March 11, 1997.

Status of the ring: Since our vacuum accident last week, things have been going very well. Our maximum accumulated current is now over 200 mA, and we have had 182 mA accelerated to full energy last week. Typically, accelerated currents are now 160-170 mA.
The beam lifetime is good, usually better than 10 hours.
The microtron is running well. The pump which caused the problem last week has been repaired, and will be mounted again today.

From the mechanical workshop, US reports, that the mirror chamber for the undulator beamline will be ready by the end of next week. The supports will be ready for the painter this week.

The new control system is running ! At least the diagnostics part of it. We have been using it since Monday, and it looks very good.

The Miyake monochromator is again ready after the beamline bakeout has finished, and there are still a few tests to be made on it. This will take place later this week. During these tests, the beam will not be excited! The times at which the tests will take place will be discussed with the other users.

The schedule for Ion Run 1/97 has been fixed. It is reproduced on the back of this page. It may also be seen on the www on the ISA 1997 Schedule page.

Håkan Danared from CRYRING will visit us on Monday. The purpose of the visit is to discuss the electron cooler. He will also give a talk about CRYRING and electron cooling.

The platform for visitors is now ready. As you will notice, a number of empty frames have been mounted on the railing. These are to contain ring information for visitors, just as the posters now displayed in the hall. Therefore, you should prepare a new and improved version of your poster which will fit the new, smaller format. There is lots of space for the ring and all our projects.

Backup problems :Last week it was discovered that a lot of old SGM and ring drawings had been lost due to misunderstandings concerning the backup policy. This has now been changed, such that archive backups are made, which are kept indefinitely.

Please keep the doors to the control room locked outside working hours, when nobody is there.

Information for users: We will start a primitive information system for users, based on the TV monitors in the ring hall. It will inform mainly about injection times and planned shutdowns, beam parameter changes etc.
Later, it will be more fancy, and include the beam current and lifetime.

WWW: This page and the earlier meeting reports are also available on the www. There is a link near the top of our status page. Please let NH know if you can use this instead of the paper copy you are receiving now.
You should also let NH know if you have anything for our research page. It has not been updated or expanded for a long time.
