ISA meeting

Week 6, Feb 4, 1997.

Status of the ring: The work planned for the present shutdown period is proceeding as scheduled:

The platform for visitors has been mounted.

All work on the ring itself has been made, and it has been baked.

The RF cavity had a leak in one of the bellows after baking. The leak has been fixed, and the cavity baked again.

The radiation shielding is back in place.

There is still some work on electrical wiring going on, but we have started the initial attempts to inject electrons. This week we will primarily do that in the late afternoon, but starting next week, we will use all day.

Welcome to new staff members: Lars Therkelsen started with ISA Monday as a mechanical engineer. Our new electrical engineer, Johnny Hansen, will start Feb. 15.

The new control system has been tested by our computer people last week. TW reports, that both the diagnostic and control system run well. He encourages us to use it, in order to check that everything has been defined correctly. It is fairly easy to switch between the old and the new system.

The Undulator: The cabling should be finished by now, and the program for the monochromator is running in a stand-alone version, JSN reports.

SGM/SCIENTA: SVC reports, that there are vacuum problems in the mirror chamber. SVC and DA will try to solve the problem.

The EBIS source is running well. NH reports, that even though there are some problems with the cathode and loss of electrons, the vacuum is better than before, and it performs as good as, if not better, than before it was moved. The next step will be to set up the small separator, and start work on getting the switching system to work.
