ISA meeting

Week 2, Jan. 7, 1997.

Status of the ring: The ring has been running during the holidays, and Dror has been able to get at least some results in that period.

We are now running BN-, still for Dror & Co.

Positions: A new engineer, Lars Terkelsen, has been hired to replace Michael Christiansen. Lars will start on Feb. 1.

Two other positions are to be filled soon: An electrical engineer and an accelerator physicist. The deadlines are January 10 and March 1, resp.

The microtron has had some problems after some changes and improvements in December, but as of today it is again running. There will now be a short period of alignment and optimizing.

The positron beamline into the new positron lab is now starting to be mounted by VT. The test beamline on top of the microtron will be in use until it is ready.

The SGM: SVC and KI have been busy with the SGM. KI hopes to mount the mirror and have it pumped out this week. The mirror chamber vacuum has been found to be OK.

The new control system is taking shape. TW & Co have run some very successful tests on an 'almost real' system. The speed with which parameters screens are updated is better than expected.

The RF cavity will get new plungers, and YS and TK are ready to start discussing this with KI. It is planned to install them during the next ion run, such that they may be used in electron run 2/97. For the coming electron run, the old plungers will be used, but the broken motor on one of them will be replaced.

The EBIS: Not much new here. The filament is outgassed, but due to a lot of work on the microtron recently, there have been no further progress.

The undulator beamline will be ready and baked before February 1, according to KI. Only the mirror chamber will wait until later.

The present ion run will finish on January 26, and the next electron run will start February 17 as planned.

The first 1½ weeks of the shutdown period will be used for installation of the platform for visitors, and the remaining 1½ weeks for injection studies in the ring.
