ISA meeting

Week 38, September 18, 2001.

Status of the ring: The ring has been running well during the past week, except for a cooling water problem Tuesday. The shaft of one of the pumps in the cooling tower broke, and it turned out that the extra pump had an electrical problem. We were able to run part of Wednesday, but the problem did not get fixed until Thursday around noon.

The x-ray microscope has had problems with the condenser zoneplate. Yesterday Joanna went to Göttingen to have them look at it, and it seems the problem is not contamination, but crystals forming on the zone plate surface, and thus a problem which stems from the manufacturing process. We will get a new zoneplate, hopefully before the BLIS meeting in the first week of October.

The EU contract has arrived for our signature. The contract period starts when it has been signed by the EU as well. The total contract amount is about € 700.000, and the contract duration is 28 months.
