ISA meeting

Week 30, July 25, 2000.

Status of the ring: The last few weeks of ion operation were used to run collision experiments with Li+ which was charge exchanged from a Li++ EBIS beam. The run went well, and for the first time, an EBIS/charge exchanged beam was accelerated in ASTRID !

Electron Run 2/00 should be setting up now and starting next week, but it will be delayed. After fixing a variety of smaller problems during the past few weeks, a major one occurred last week, when the HV supply for the microtron modulator broke down. This was our backup supply, the primary one being in the UK for repairs. We have up to now been unable to find a replacement for the defective part, a fast thyristor which for some reason is not produced any more. Our primary supply may not be ready for another three weeks, but we are doing what we can to speed this up, and at the same time trying to repair the backup supply. News will be posted on our status page on the www: http://www.isa.au.dk/status/status.html

The first CD (Circular Dichroism) meeting, which took place on June 29th was a success. Many potential users took part, and there is a lot of interest in the facility. Several groups are prepared to do their initial experiments in the coming run.

Monochromators and SR beamlines will all be ready in time for their scheduled runs.
