ISA meeting

Week 23, June 6, 2000.

Status of the ring: The C3+ run last week went well. We were able to inject at 180 keV, store, accelerate to 6 MeV and position the beam. However, no experimental results were obtained, since no dielectronic recombination was observed when the electron cooler was turned on. The next time, we might try to use a 60 keV D2+ beam first, since this would have the same m/q as the Carbon beam, and thus the same ring settings. The advantage is a large dissociative recombination cross section which would facilitate adjustment of the electron cooler.
This week, the laser cooling group is continuing the Mg+ run, Until now, it is going well.
