ISA meeting

Week 14, April 04, 2000.

Status of the ring:The stored currents have been 140-160 mA during the past week. We have had several problems with both the RF and the microtron. We are of course working on increasing the stored current.

Beam during Easter? : Since the current electron run has been extended until Sunday April 30, we would like to know, if anyone wants beam during the Easter holidays (Thursday to Monday, April 20-24). If so, please tell , or .

DIAMOND, the new synchrotron which many people expected would be built at Daresbury, will instead be built at the Rutherford Appleton Labs. You can read more about it here: http://www.clrc.ac.uk/NewLight/ .

ELISA has been tested with the new cylindrical bends, and it looks very good. Much higher currents can now be stored. Congratulations!

The EBIS is now running with ion injection. Last Friday, a Zn+ beam was injected, 'cooked' in the EBIS, and extracted. In the extracted beam, up to Zn10+ was present. The actual current of the individual charge states is yet to be determined. Congratulations! To celebrate this break-through, there will be a glass of wine on Friday at 12:30. There will be an announcement.

The control system is now ready in a new version, in which the errors that have caused problems during the past weeks are corrected. We will start using the new version as soon as possible.

The Nordic Ring Meeting 2000 which was held in Uppsala last week with participation from Finland, Sweden and Denmark, went very well. It was interesting to note, that the level of activity and investment in Sweden is extremely high. Several labs sent more people to the meeting than the total number of ISA VIP staff members!

The UV1 gratings have been etched, and are expected to be here next week.
