ISA meeting

Week 38, September 21, 1999.

Status of the ring: As usual, the ring has been running well during the past week. Currents are typically 140 mA, with lifetimes in excess of 30 hours.

The SGM 3 gratings are still not here. The manufacturer had a problem with the reactive ion etching last week, but fortunately there was no damage to the substrate, so we still expect the gratings to arrive late this week.

All monochromators including the x-ray microscope are active, and things are reported to be going well.

The EBIS was running very well with a spectrum from the residual gas last Friday. Next, the EBIS voltage will be brought up to 100 kV, and test of a beam from the ion separator will be made.

The ANKA Booster, in which ISA is involved is running well. Yesterday, there was a machine advisory committee meeting at ANKA, and we were able to demonstrate a 2 mA extracted beam at full energy (500 MeV), which is very good, considering that the first extracted beam was seen last week. The design value is 7 mA at 500 MeV.
