ISA meeting

Week 20, May 18 1999.

Status of the ring: The ring was back in operation Wednesday of last week, after fixing the leak in corner 2 and the dipole power supply. The laser group finished the run Monday morning. In spite of the difficulties, the group managed to test new equipment and software, but the results obtained was of course reduced due to the shorter running time.
Yesterday, we started running O3- from the cold-cathode source. It seems to be very well suited for this, and yesterday evening, the electron cooler group managed to get more than 100 nA of O3- at 100 keV from the separator. Today, we will inject this beam into the ring, and accelerate it to max. energy, which will be around 3 MeV. The group will continue to Tuesday morning next week (Monday next week is a holiday) , and before then, it is also planned to run F2-.

The changes for electron run 2/99 have been looked at by KI and SPM, and all of the requested changes can be made in time.

ELISA had the charge exchange cell and a new detector chamber mounted last week, and is now ready again. The first run will be He-.

The computer group need two hours for a necessary backup of the SQL server. During this time, only cached pages can be used in the control system. We will try to schedule the backup at a time where the ion source is being changed, in order not to disturb the users.

An application to the European Union for a project on the X-ray microscope has been made. The project is to make further studies of sperm, for which our microscope is especially well suited. The amount applied for is 1.5 Mkr/year for staff and running costs.

A paper from the X-ray microscopy group, which was published in the last issue of Human Reproduction (vol.14 no.4 pp880-884, 1999) was selected as an OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION by the editors. This honour is given to only one paper (out of about 40) in each issue. Congratulations !

REMEMBER the meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, for all ISA staff members. The meeting is in 525.323 at 16:00.
