ISA meeting

Week 19, May 11 1999.

Status of the ring: The Mg run has proceeded as planned until the past weekend, where a leak developed in corner two. Monday, it was localized to the HV feed-through in the ion pump between the dipoles. The feed-through was replaced yesterday, and the affected section of the ring is now again under vacuum and being baked out. At the same time as the leak was discovered, problems with bad cable insulation started in the dipole current supply. The problems are probably caused by ageing, accelerated by the high temperature inside the supply, which makes the insulation brittle. All affected cables are now being replaced, and we should be able to resume ring operation tomorrow.
Next week, we will switch to negative ions (F2- and O3-).

Congratulations to the positron group. Saturday there was a major step forward as the first positrons were trapped. The lifetime was short (~10 microseconds), but this should improve dramatically once the fields are aligned properly.

Preparations for the Electron Run 2/99 were discussed. The modifications will be mainly on beamlines. Changes to the ring (new plungers + undulator chamber) will wait until Electron Run 1/00.

Please remember the talk this afternoon by Sverker Werin from Max-Lab in Lund. Sverker will tell os about status and future plans concerning the MAX accelerator complex. The talk will be in 520-732 at 14:15 TODAY (Tuesday May 11).
