ISA meeting

Week 6, Feb. 9, 1999.

Status of the ring: The ring is currently running Mg+ for the laser cooling group. The run is going well, and the experiments are progressing as planned. This run will end on Monday morning, Feb. 1st, when the changeover to electron operation will begin.

Electron Run 1/99 will begin as soon as the ring is ready and the injection has been aligned. We expect to start injections late next week, i.e. after the bakeout has finished. When the bakeout is started next Tuesday, the year 2000 test will be made, and some maintenance on the server will take place.

The positron beamline is now being modified to include a ceramic gap and a beam current transformer close to the target. It will be running again in a few days.

Other changes and additions which are being or have been made for the coming electron run include fixing the turbopump on the x-ray microscope and the beamshutter on the SX-700, mounting a crane to be able to handle the SX-700 manipulator more easily, and installing closed-circuit cooling systems for the correction dipole supplies and the electron cavity.

The ANKA microtron is now commissioned and is being shipped to Karlsruhe this week. It produced a beam with a maximum intensity of 12 mA last week!

The University Annual Report deadline is on Thursday, Feb. 11. PLEASE give a list of publications and conferences you have attended in 1998 to Ruth before then.

Congratulations to MAX lab on the funding of their new injector/storage ring. It has been funded by the Swedish Council for Planning and Coordination of Research. The first beam is expected in mid-2001. You can read more on http://www.maxlab.lu.se/
