ISA meeting

Week 2, Jan. 12, 1999.

Status of the ring: The D- experiment (P. Balling) ended on the night between Sunday and Monday. A width of the Feshbach resonance significantly smaller than seen previously was observed. It was, however, difficult to obtain a good overlap with the laser and a simultaneous well-cooled beam. Also the laser did not quite deliver the optimal beam. We will presumably have to return to this experiment in a later run. Next experiment is HD+, O+ and H2O+ for LHA et al.

The status of ELISA was presented last Friday. Everything behaves nicely for small circulating currents (< a few nA), and lifetimes up to around one minute has been seen. For intense beams, a current-dependent loss mechanism is observed. The cause of these losses is unknown at present, but remedies will be searched for, in order to make future high-current operation possible.

The ventilation system in the ASTRID hall is out of order, but is being repaired.

Karsten Rasmussen is going of leave from February 1st. His duties will be divided between several persons; these changes will be presented in the next ISA meeting report.
Robin Medenwaldt is leaving us on March 1st for another job. Good luck, Robin.
