ISA meeting

Week 27, July 1, 1998.

Status of the ring: Last weeks run was 4He4He+ and 4He3He+. After substantial work in order to improve the pumping speed for He, both beams were finally accelerated, although the intensity was low and the lifetime short. However, LHA et al acquired a fair amount of data. We will presumably return to this beam in the next ion run, and it is expected to be easier then with the new longer injection line. This week we are running N2-, first from the sputter source and then from a universal source with charge exchange. For your information, the electron cooling of D-, which we worked on two weeks ago, seems to be at least partially successful. This is a consequence of the hint given by the LEAR team to avoid captured ions in the electron beam.

The preparations for the next electron run are coming along as scheduled. The water leaks in the electron cavity has been welded, and the new kicker is in the workshop. Since Tonny is not expected to be back before this run, we have made an agreement with the rf-group in the PS-division at CERN, that they will provide expert assistance if needed.

One of the motors on SGM1 has been replaced.

The second, and last, magnet from DANFYSIK for onduline has arrived.

Exchange of the "kanal-plader" for the heat exchangers will take place during one of the days in week 31. A warning will be issued, but it only concerns cooling circuit # 3 and 4; i.e. only power-supply and magnet cooling for the ring.

TW reports that the new control system is ready for the final (?) installation during the shut-down. The status of the ConSys Project can be found on
