ISA meeting

Week 35, August 26, 1997.

Status of the ring: Right now, the ring is running well again. We have had over 160 mA of accelerated current.

Last week, we cleaned the waveguide and circulator in the microtron RF-system. There was a lot of dust in the system, and we do not understand where it comes from, but removing it has improved the stability of the system.

Tuesday morning, a soldering broke in the klystron tank. This has been fixed, so we are back in business.

The SX-700 monochromator had an accident last Friday: a valve broke such that it stayed in the 'Closed' position. Furthermore, it developed a small leak. It was replaced Tuesday, and is now being pumped and prepared for a bakeout, but it will be some time until the vacuum in the monochromator is OK again.

The Undulator Beamline is getting ready. There has been light through the entire system, and the next activity will be to adjust position and angle of the beamline and monochromator and analyze the spectrum carefully.

Welcome to Birgitte Bearden from KVL in Copenhagen. She will be with the X-Ray microscopy group for five weeks, working with colloids.

Goodbye to Jan van Elp, who will be leaving us by the end of this week. Good luck in Japan!

The X-Ray Microscope is running well, RM reports.

The new control system, is starting to be used for running the ring. We can now control parameters via the system, and will be using it more and more in the future. Our electron diagnostics already run via the new system.

A list of publications concerning work at ASTRID has been compiled by RL. A copy may be seen in the ISA meeting room next to the control room. It is placed on the same shelf as the meeting reports. Please check it, and if you have changes or additions, give them to RL. You are also welcome to give RL your complete ASTRID publication list. If possible, deliver the list in digital form, preferably in WORD7 format.
