ISA meeting

Week 28, July 8, 1997.

Status of the ring: Last week we started to run B2- for the electron cooler group, but were unable to get sufficient intensity. We then switched to O2- and later OH-, both of which ran well. These ions are all accelerated to about 5 MeV. Yesterday we went back to B2-, this time with better luck. This is running well now.

Welcome to Stuart Lunt from Daresbury, who will be with us for at least two years. Stuart is in room 525-318.

The microtron is getting ready for electrons again. We have had a lot of problems with the turbo pumps. Two have failed completely, and the third had a roughing pump problem. We have borrowed two pumps from the x-ray microscope, and KR is currently working on getting everything under vacuum later today.
The microtron must be running well before week 32, when electron run 2/97 starts, and with vacations etc, there is not much time left.
